Supervision in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
For those who have met me, you know that I have a mild-to-moderate obsession with EFT. I am thrilled to now include EFT Supervision and Consultation in my practice!
Supervision is an important and delicate relationship - learning to do something new, especially something as complex as EFT therapy, requires a caring and balanced approach. As learners, we all need validation, support, and cheer leading, as well as safety to play around with a new idea. We also need clear guidance so we can adjust when we’re getting off course. I want my supervisees to feel as safe as possible in the process, and also clear on their next steps so they don’t feel like they have to read between the lines.
Just as EFT is an experiential model, I aim to help my supervision sessions to be experiential as well! So, my supervisees gain a combination of concrete knowledge (ex. keeping track of those pesky Steps and Stages), and also a felt sense of how to apply that knowledge in session (ex. practicing a new facet of RISSSC together, so it feels natural in your sessions).
I am proud to be an ICEEFT-Approved Supervisor in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. This means I can provide supervision to other therapists who are learning or honing their skills in EFT and/or working towards EFT Certification. Or for seasoned therapists who may just want to talk through a particularly challenging case.
I am also a neurodverse therapist and frequently work with other therapists with ADHD or Autism. There are specific learning strategies that can be helpful with those of us with neurodiversity, and I love creating a learning environment where my supervises don’t have to mask.
If you’re ready to jump in and do some brave work together, reach out for a free 30-min consultation to see if we are a good fit!
My current rate for supervision is $200 / hour.
Special Focus in supervision
Over the course of my own EFT learning, I have made it a point to seek out specialized training in the areas where I’ve noticed either a special interest in myself, or common blind spots in our profession.
These include:
EFT for Couples Impacted by Neurodiversity - More awareness is growing around the impact of neurodiversity in relationships. However, many of the resources out there do not offer evidence-based approaches. As a therapist specializing in working with STEM professionals, I am passionate about extending EFT to couples with one or more member who experiences neurodiversity. In addition to striving to remain up to date on the literature in this area, I’ve attended the 2-day advanced training Working with ADHD Impacted Relationships Through the EFT Lens with Dr. Alexine Thompson-De Benoit and Dr. Ben Kneubühler.
EFT and Trauma - Before specializing with couples, I spent over a decade working with trauma survivors using EMDR. I bring that experience, along with the advanced 4-day training on EFT Couples Therapy and Trauma with Dr. Leanne Campbell.
EFT and Sex - the often overlooked but Ohhh SO IMPORTANT aspect of couples therapy! Hint - if we’re not talking with our couples about sex, we’re missing a whole dimension! I’ve attended the Sex as Safe Adventure advanced 2-day training and 8-week Master Class with Dr. Zoya Simakhodskaya, PhD and Michael Moran, LCSW, Certified Sex Therapist.
EFT and Infidelity - It’s difficult and tumultuous, and a looong road, but EFT can help couples heal from the attachment wound of infidelity. I’ve attended the Infidelity and EFT Master Class with Dr. Ting Liu, PhD, LMT.
Special Considerations for Neurodiverse Therapists - There is A LOT to keep track of in an EFT session. For those therapists with neurodiversity, this can sometimes help us stay engaged and avoid distraction, or it can sometimes feel overwhelming. (Not to mention the challenges of documentation that can plague us…). I have worked with many neurodiverse supervises, and am a neurodiverse therapist myself, so I am happy to help support the strengths and challenges we bring to our work.
Self-Pay Practice Building - Providing excellent EFT therapy is a labor of love - and also the result of a LOT of investment in our own training. I believe therapists deserve to earn financial compensation in line with this life-changing work we provide. This can often mean building a practice that is self-pay. I’m a Graduate of Tiffany McLain’s Lean. In. Make. Bank. program, and a member of an ongoing Mastermind Group on this topic.
